O.A.Q. #2 Do you build Adirondack chairs out of skis?

Do you build Adirondack chairs out of skis?

Short answer: no.  The ski Adirondack chair is quite ubiquitous and over done, in my opinion.  While I have considered creating a different style of ski Adirondack chair, for now there is plenty of other more unique designs that I’m interested in creating.

Beetle Kill Blue Stain Pine

A lot of my designs incorporate wood in some manner.  In keeping with reuse and minimizing our impact, I am now utilizing blue stain pine, salvaged from beetle kill trees.

What is blue stain pine? Blue stain pine is a result of the bark pine beetle’s attack on pine trees – the blue stain (not actually a wood stain) is a fungi that blocks the trees resin response, which is the tree’s natural defense (hence why trees under stress, and therefore are not producing enough resin, are often the first attacked in an outbreak).

The mountain pine beetle has been causing havoc among western forests, including Colorado.  Learn more about the mountain pine beetle here.

Keep an eye out for our first creation using blue stain pine.

O.A.Q. #1 Do you build things out of snowboards?

No question is really that frequent, so instead we have Once Asked Questions (O.A.Q.)…

Do you build things out of snowboards?

Excellent question.  The answer is: Not yet.  We’re not opposed to snowboards (and actually think the new breed of splitboards are pretty cool), but haven’t had as much opportunity to integrate snowboards into designs.  With snowboarding a relatively new sport (compared to skiing), there aren’t as many old snowboards sitting around with nothing better to do.  Have a old snowboard you want to give a second life?  Please contact us.
